PaCT recently hosted two half-day Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) at the IFC Dhaka office on two urgent issues pertaining to the textile sector: ‘Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP)’ and ‘Captive Power Plant’. The objective of the FGDs was to bring together key sector stakeholders to showcase the economic and technical feasibility of a CETP and demonstrate the value proposition of a Centralized Power Plant in Konabari, situated on the outskirts of Dhaka city.
Central to discussions were the recent CETP feasibility study conducted by Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company (TWIC) Limited, and a study on CPP conducted by Deloitte. Preliminary findings from both were presented to all participants, including potential beneficiaries.
Both events were attended by representatives from The World Bank Group and IFC, TWIC, GE, international clothing brands C&A and H&M, PaCT partner factories, garment and knitwear manufacturers’ associations BGMEA and BKMEA, Bangladesh University of Engineering, and Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies.
